High manganese wear resistant steel plate is the best choice among the wear resistant materials used for resistance to strong shocks and great pressures, which has a sound work hardening property that is unmatchable for other wear resistant materials, because under a great impact load or contact stress, work hardening is induced on the surface layer of a steel plate and the hardness of its surface rapidly increases from HB200 to over HB500, thus a high wear resistant surface layer is formed while the austenite in the inner layer of the steel plates still remains a good impact toughness. High manganese steel has two major features: first, the greater the external impact load, the higher the wear resistance of its surface; second, with the gradual wear of the hardened surface layer, new work hardening layers will be formed continuously. These special features of high manganese steel make it suitable to be used in the manufacture of wear resistant components subjected to prolonged wear under high impacts, and it has been widely used in the mechanical devices for industries of metallurgy, mining, building materials, railway, electricity, coal and others. Especially in recent years, with the high-speed development of modern industries and rapid progress of science and technology, high manganese steel has been chosen as the best wear-resistant material for the production of advanced equipments such as magnetically levitated trains, safes, bullet-proof vehicles, rock-drilling robots, new tanks, and so on. Compared to the high manganese steel, many new materials and modern surface engineering technology remains not cost-effective yet.
